Muslim Welfare Association of Port Talbot (MWAPT) and Port Talbot Mosque and Islamic Centre was established in 2002 to serve the needs of the Muslim community of Port Talbot.
Located in the heart of Port Talbot town, MWAPT is a voluntary non-profit organisation. The mosque is solely run on contributions and donations from the local Muslim community.
The original building with a community center that was used once a week for the Friday prayers (Jummah). With the help of the local Muslim and non-muslim communities and local organizations, MWAPT was able to turn this center in to fully purpose Mosque. Now, along with the weekly Fridays Sermon, Port Talbot Mosque holds the Five Daily Prayers in Congregation, weekly Quran and Arabic Classes for children and adults and holds various programs throughout the year.
Port Talbot Mosque has an open-door policy and regularly invites people and encourages them to visit regularly. The Mosque works closely with local organisations and schools and provides Islamic information and hold open days in order to build bridges with non-Muslim communities.
